Statistics governance and quality framework
The European System of Central Banks (ESCB) attaches great importance to the quality of its statistics, while keeping the reporting burden to a minimum for respondents. It is committed to good governance, takes into consideration internationally agreed quality standards and guarantees the confidentiality of information.
- Ensuring the quality of statistics underlying the macroeconomic imbalances procedure (MIP)
- Public commitment on European statistics by the ESCB Principles for the development, collection, compilation and dissemination of ESCB statistics
- The ECB Statistics Quality Framework and quality assurance procedures. Quality principles and elements guiding the production of ECB statistics
- Transparency in developing new ECB regulations for European statistics
Experimental data
There are data where compromises have to be made in terms of the high quality standards to which the ECB and ESCB adhere. For transparency reasons, such data are also made available on this website and clearly marked as “experimental data”.
Statistical confidentiality
The protection of confidentiality when collecting statistical information is of paramount importance to the ECB and the ESCB.
Article 8 of Council Regulation (EC) No 2533/98, as amended by Council Regulation (EC) No 951/2009 of 9 October 2009 and Council Regulation (EU) 2015/373 of 5 March 2015. A consolidated version is also available on EUR-Lex.europa.eu (html).
A yearly report is prepared on the compliance by all ESCB members during the previous period.
